Who is Rolando Romero?

American professional boxer Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero was born in Las Vegas, Nevada USA, on 14 October 1995, so Libra’s his zodiac sign. Rolando’s been boxing professionally since 2 December 2016, when he defeated David Courtney via technical knockout in the first round. He’s now probably known best for having held the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim lightweight title in 2020 and 2021;

Education and early life

Roland was raised in Las Vegas by his parents about whom he doesn’t speak in public, because they prefer to maintain their privacy; he hasn’t spoken of having siblings either, and most of Rolando’s fans believe him to be an only child.

He began practicing boxing at the age of 12 – some believe that Rolando was bullied at school, and that this led him to start boxing so that he could stand up for himself. He studied at a local high school in Las Vegas and was passionate about sports during his four years there; Rolando was on the school’s wrestling team, and also ran track and played both soccer and basketball.

He matriculated in 2014, and then focused on boxing training, rather than enrolling at college.

Career as a professional boxer

Rolando’s boxing match against David Courtney took place in Sunrise Manor, Nevada at the Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, and he went on to win all his seven matches in the following three years; only one of these wasn’t won by stoppage.

Rolando faced Andres Figueroa on 20 April 2019, winning by technical knockout in the fourth round, and the first important match for his career was when he defeated Juan Carlos Cordones on 1 November 2019, knocking him out in the first round. He followed by winning by technical knockout in the second round against then-undefeated Arturs Ahmetovs on 22 February 2020.

Rolando had a record of 11-0 when it was announced that he would face Jackson Marinez, an undefeated Dominican boxer, which took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on 15 August 2020, for the vacant WBA interim lightweight title – Roland won via unanimous decision after 12 rounds. He was then scheduled to face Justin Pauldo, but Justin failed to pass his pre-fight physical, so Romeo faced Avery Sparrow, knocking him out in the 7th round.

He was to defend his title against Anthony Yigit, but Anthony came 5lbs over the weight limit; the two men still met in the ring, with Rolando knocking him out in the 7th round.

It was revealed on 6 October 2021 that Rolando would face then-undefeated WBA lightweight campion Gervonta Davis, however, as a woman then accused Rolando of sexual assault, he was pulled from the fight, and replaced by Mexican professional boxer Isaac Jonathan Cruz Gonzalez. Romero then announced on his Instagram account on 11 January 2022, that no lawsuit had been filed against him, and he was scheduled to fight Gervonta on 28 May 2022 – Romero losing via technical knockout in the 6th round.

Most recently, on 8 February 2023, it was announced that Romero would be challenging Dominican professional boxer Alberto Puello Calderon for his WBA light welterweight title.

Some of his fans believe that he’s today dating a non-celebrity Mexican girl, as the two have apparently been seen spending time together on multiple occasions, however, no evidence has been provided to support these rumors.

Some believe that he’s perhaps gay, and this to be why he avoids speaking about his love life, but this hasn’t been addressed by Rolando either.

He seems to be single as of February 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
