Jessica Marie Garcia was born on 23 March 1987, in Orlando, Florida, USA. She’s an American actress, activist, and writer,  probablybest known for her comedic roles in TV series such as “On My Block” and “Liv and Maddie”. Jessica has also appeared in a number of other highly successful television series, including “Liv and Maddie”, “The Middle”, and “How to Get Away with Murder”.

Early Life and education

Jessica was raised in a middle-class family of immigrants, and is of mixed descent with her mother being Cuban and her father from Mexico. Her mother worked as a nurse, while her father is a businessman who owns a car dealership.

Jessica discovered her love for acting and performing at a young age, and pursued it throughout her teenage years. She attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, where she was involved in drama and theatre. After matriculating high school in 2005, she moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue more acting opportunities. Before making her breakthrough as an actress, Jessica worked as a restaurant waitress, a job she continued in the early days of her acting career.

Movies and TV shows

Jessica made her TV series debut in 2010, when she appeared in five episodes of the ABC comedy-drama “Huge”. Two years later, she landed a recurring role in the family sitcom “The Middle”, centered on the daily mishaps of a semi-dysfunctional family from a small town in Indiana; Jessica appeared in a total of 11 episodes, from 2012 through 2014.

In 2013, she joined the cast of the popular Disney Channel comedy series “Liv and Maddie” – the role many consider to be her breakthrough. The show aired until 2017, and followed the lives of twin sisters, Liv and Maddie Rooney, both played by Dove Cameron.

In the series, Jessica portrayed Willow, one of Maddie’s closest friends, known for her quirky sense of humor and unusual fashion choices. Interestingly enough, although her character was a teenager, Jessica was actually 26 years old at the beginning of the show, and 30 by the time it ended. Nonetheless, her role in “Liv and Maddie” helped Jessica establish herself as a promising comedic actress, her performance also earning her a nomination for a Young Artist Award in 2016.

From 2015 through 2019, Jessica starred alongside Monica Sherer and Madeline Whitby in the all-girls comedy sketch show “Betch”, and in addition wrote several episodes of the show. In 2017,  Jessica made her film debut in the crime thriller drama “Avenge the Crows”, written and directed by Nathan Gabaeff, and which starred Danay Garcia, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Danny Trejo. In the same year, she also starred in the comedy mini-series “Hacking High School”.

In 2018, Jessica landed another recurring role, in the series, “On My Block”, portraying Jasmine Flores, a loud and opinionated girl who is the classmate of the main characters. The show was created by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft, and followed a group of high schoolers from a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in Los Angeles. It earned critical acclaim for its portrayal of teenage life in urban communities, as well as for its exploration of issues such as racism and immigration. Jessica was also praised for her performance and her ability to bring depth and complexity to her character.

Since “On the Block” wrapped-up in 2021, Jessica’s starred in the short-lived family comedy “Diary of a Future President”, and has also made a guest appearance in the NBC sitcom “Lopez vs. Lopez”, starring George and Mayan Lopez.

As an actor, Adam made his breakthrough in the comedy series “My Half Brother”. However, he’s primarily known for his work behind the camera, having worked on movies and TV series such as “Barracuda” (2013), “Little Women: LA” (2016), and “Palm Swings” (2020).

Jessica and Adam frequently share their love for each other on social media, and have been open about the ups and downs of their relationship. In an interview with the magazine “People”, Jessica revealed that their marriage has not always been easy, but they’ve worked hard to maintain their love and respect for each other.

In November 2021, Jessica announced that she was pregnant with her first child; the couple welcomed their daughter, Selena Grey on 4 February 2022. In a subsequent Instagram post, Jessica gave a special thanks to her husband, family, and the doctors and nurses who were by her side during her pregnancy. ‘I still can’t believe it! We are over the moon excited, and so thankful to God for blessing us with this opportunity to be parents’, Jessica continued.
