Susan Elizabeth Perkins, born on the 22nd September 1969, is an English comedian, actress, writer and broadcaster who became famous for her team-up with fellow comedian Mel Giedroyc, known as “Mel and Sue”. The two became famous for hosting shows including “Light Lunch” and “The Great British Bake Off.”

Born in East Dulwich, South London, Perkins is the daughter of Bert Perkins, who worked as a local car dealer, and Ann Perkins, who was a secretary, she has two younger siblings. She attended Croham Hurst School for girls and later on studied English at New Hall, University of Cambridge. During her time at Cambridge, she met fellow comic Mel Giedroyc; the two became great friends and created the duo “Mel and Sue.” They started their career in the ‘90s doing gigs and shows, and their breakthrough came when they appeared in an episode of the television series “French & Saunders.”
Perkins together with Giedroyc would later have their own show entitled “Light Lunch”, wherein they invited a celebrity guest to cook for them and a guest celebrity.
