Steve Williams grew up in Wellington. When he was six years old, his career as a caddy began, and he learnt really quickly which led to frequent playing and caddying of 36 holes, and staying out until dark, practicing his golf shots, but he figured out that he loved being a caddy more than a golfer.

His professional career as a caddy began in the 1970s, and his first major golfer was Peter Thompson, when in 1976 he was hired to be his caddy during the New Zealand Open.

Impressed by him, Peter hired Steve to be his regular caddy at New Zealand tournaments.
Before he was 16, Steve was regular in Australia tournaments as a caddy during school vacations, however, when he had turned 16, he traveled to Europe, and was quite successful on the European tour.

His net worth began slowly to increase and his popularity grew, and soon he became one of the most sought-after caddies on the European tour. He was hired by several Australian golfers such as Ian Baker-Finch. Afterwards, Greg Norman hired him as his regular caddy for all events in Australian and Asia, but also some tournaments in Europe.

He then moved to USA, alongside Norman, and became his full time caddy, but he was soon fired. Greg tried to rehire him, but Williams already had the job with Raymond Floyd, and stayed with him until 1999. Floyd’s success was also Steve’s, and his net worth was growing.

His next golfer was none other than Tiger Woods; the two met at the Doral-Ryder Open, and after the event ended, Woods hired Steve as his regular caddy. This increased Steve`s net worth by a large degree, since Woods dominated the tour over the next few years. Williams remained Tiger`s caddy until 2011, earning as much as $12 million in bonus and salary, however, according to sources, Woods also gave him several automobiles which the golfer had won when Steve was his caddy.

After he finished carrying cubs for Woods, Williams was hired by Adam Scott, with whom he continued to line up successes, increasing further his net worth, until his retirement.

Steve Williams was inducted into the Caddy Hall of Fame by the Western Golf Association, for his accomplishment, and in promoting caddies in golf.

Regarding his personal life, nothing is known in the media, except that he is married to Kirsty. He is also a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM). His free time Williams spends on speedway racing as the competitor for the racing club Huntly Speedway. As with many other sportsman, Steve Williams is also recognized for his charity work – he established “The Steve Williams Foundation”. He has also donated $1 million to Starship Children’s Health, which helps children with cancer. Williams has his own website, named “KiwiCaddy.co.nz”, where you can find news about upcoming tournaments. He resides in New Zealand.
