Rosey Grier was one of twelve children and grew up in Georgia, but went to the Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, New Jersey, where he played high school football before matriculating in 1951. Rosey later enrolled at Penn State University and spent the next four years there, while in the 1955 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected him as the 31st overall pick in the third round.
Grier stayed with the Giants from 1955 to 1962 and won the NFL Championship in 1956, and also the Eastern Conference Championship in 1958, 1959, 1961, and 1962.
