Rhys Darby was raised in Pakuranga, Auckland, where he attended Edgewater College and after leaving school joined the New Zealand army as a soldier and served from 1991 to 1994. After that, he went to the University of Canterbury to study art. However, he was very interested in stand-up comedy so he started developing his own comedy routine – better known as slapstick humor – based on deliberately clumsy actions and humorously embarrassing events. In 1996 with his friend Grant Lobban, Darby founded a comedy duo, which they called “Rhysently Granted”. His net worth began building when they performed locally, and soon they won at an open contest at Southern Blues Bar in the Christian church. However, he wanted to be a solo stand-up comedian, so his first solo performance was at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2002, with other comedians – Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie. Darby moved to the UK in the same year to pursue his career further, which was based partly on viewings of “Monty Python”. In addition to this, he has published three following comedy DVDs – “Imagine That!”, “It’s Rhys Darby Night!” and “This Way to Spaceship”. All have contributed to his net worth.

2004 year was probably the start of his real rise in net worth, when his career continued with Clement and McKenzie on their own BBC radio show called “Flight of the Conchords” in the role of Brian Nesbit, which led him to the TV version of this series on HBO. In this show he played a semi-improvised role as the band’s manager Murray Hewitt. The somewhat unexpected success of this show had a huge influence on Americans who loved it, so the show soon after became very popular.

In 2008 he was asked to appear in the comedy called “Yes Man” alongside Jim Carrey, in which he played a nerdish variation on his “Conchords” character. Furthermore to his engagements in 2008, he acted as an imposter coach of the tennis star Roger Federer, in a Nike commercial, and in commercials for the company of mobile 2 degrees, which also increased his net worth. After the role in “Yes Man”, his career began to gain in its popularity, and his net worth rose steadily, as he started to appear as a main star in films such as “Love Birds” (2011) in the role of Doug, “Diagnosis: Death” (2009) as Specialist, and “Coming And Going” (2011) playing Lee.

Furthermore, in recent years he has also worked as a voice actor, lending his voice to numerous characters such as Percy The Penguin in the TV series “Jake And The Never Land Pirates” (2012-2015), Lead Elf in the 3D animated film “Arthur Christmas” (2011) and many others.

Apart from his film career, Darby has also made numerous appearances in TV series, including “Hot in Cleveland” (2014-2015) as Jack, “How To Be A Gentleman” (2011-2012), in which he portrayed Mike, and he also had small roles in TV series’ “How I Met Your Mother”, “Tiny Commando”, “Short Poppies” and “Life In Pieces”, which added to his overall wealth. His latest ventures in the entertainment industry include roles in the up-coming 2016 films “Hunt For TheWilderpeople” and “Wrecked”. Furthermore, he is to star in an episode of the popular TV series “The X-Files”.

Regarding his personal life, Darby is somewhat an adventurist; he climbed Killimanjaro in 2013. When it comes to his love life, Darby is married to Rosie Carnahan, with whom he has two children. They live in Los Angeles, California.
