Ralph’s parents, Nathra and Rose are immigrants from Lebanon, who settled in Winsted, Connecticut. They ran a bakery and restaurant, while young Ralph helped his parents. Also, he worked as a newspaper delivery boy, earning his first money. He went to The Gilbert School, from which he matriculated in 1951, then won a scholarship to attend Princeton University, however his father was against it, as his family couldn’t afford to support him, so he enrolled at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, while also receiving magna cum laude honors. After that he enrolled at the prestigious Harvard Law School, however he became bored with lessons, and started hitchhiking around the USA, doing his own research about problems that trouble Native Americans, and migrant worker rights. Nevertheless, Ralph received his LL.B from Harvard in 1958.

The following year, he was admitted to the Connecticut bar, and began working in Hartford, Connecticut, and also served as a lecturer at the University of Harvard. Five years later, he moved to Washington, and started working as a staff assistant to Assistant Secretary of Labor Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

In 1965 he published a book, entitled “Unsafe At Any Spped”, which questioned the safety of most American automobiles, and it resulted in a lawsuit against General Motors. Eventually, an act was enabled – National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, and also Ralph received $425,000 from GM, and subsequently founded the Center for the Study of Responsive Law.

In 1968, he changed another law; he recruited seven law volunteers, who were named Nader`s Raiders, whose job was to evaluate the efficacy and operation of the Federal Trade Commission. According to reports, FTC was rendered as ineffective and passive, and after the reports, Richard Nixon reorganised the organization, and since then it has been an important part of the US government.

A year after the report was published, Nader started the watchdog group Public Citizen, which focuses on improving consumer rights – Ralph served on the board of directors until 1980. Thanks to his continuous involvement in customer protection, several more acts were admitted, including, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Clean Water Act, Whistleblower Protection Act, Consumer Product Safety Act and Freedom of Information Act.

In the early 1970s, thanks to his increasing popularity, Ralph ran for president, however he was unsuccessful. In all he started presidential campaigns five times, but was nowhere near to being elected as the new USA president.

He stayed active in consumer politics, and started several other organizations, including the D.C Library Renaissance Project, which sought to stop te development of the West End Library in Washington D.C, and American Museum of Tort Law, which was founded in his hometown, Winsted, Connecticut.

During his career, Ralph has published numerous books, the sales of which only increased his net worth, including “Crashing the Party” (2002), “Civic Arousal” (2004), “Only The Super-Rich Can Save Us!” (2009), “Unstoppable” The Emerging Left-Right Alliance To Dismantle the Corporate State” (2014), and most recently “Breaking Through Power: It`s Easier Than We Think” (2016), among many others.
Ralph has received numerous prestigious awards, including being named as one of the 100 most influential American by Life Magazine in 1990, and in 1999 by Time Magazine. Furthermore, he was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2016, and the same year he was given the Gandhi Peace Award, for Promoting Enduring Peace.

Regarding his personal life, Ralph has never married. He said to Karen Croft, who worked for his organization Center for Study of Responsive law, on the question why he hasn`t married, that he is a man devoted to career, and not family.

Although he has owned stocks in several successful companies, he lived on $25,000 a year, and has apparently never owned a car, or any major real estate. He resides in Washington D.C.

  1. Dear Sir,

I am a Canadian from Chilliwack, B.C. I am writing you because I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING UNDER TRUMP.

I HAVE SPENT MONTHS RESEARCHING TRUMP AND WATCHING THE NEWS VERY CAREFULLY !!!!II I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH FROM MANY STATIONS AND ARTICLES.

HE IS DANGEROUS !!!!! He lies all the time and has already broken many laws and yet the republicans continue to support him – let him get away with all the conflicts of interests. This evening I watched Putin speak about how well Trump is doing etc. etc. He said that this COLLUSION is nothing but a lie. (Coming from a man who lies as much as Trump, that does not comfort me any !!!!)

IT IS SIMPLY MPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO HAVE GOTTEN ALL ELECTORAL VOTES WHILE LOOSING MILLIONS OF THE POPULAR VOTES. THAT TOOK COOPERATION FROM BOTH SIDES. EVERYTHING POINTS TO RUSSIA. tHERE ARE JUST TOO MANY THINGS THAT POINT TO RUSSIA FOR THIS TO HAVE ALL HAPPENED PER CHANCE. I LEARNED HOW RUSSIA MADE HIM RICH. RUSSIA SET HIM UP FOR THE PRESIDENCY!!!!!! TRUMP IS A CRUEL MAN. AS SOON AS HE DOES NOT NEED YOU, HE WILL DROP YOU.

WHY IS THE U.S. SO BLIND.

PRAYING THAT TRUMP WILL BE STOPPED.

    Miss Els Pol

NOW THERE IS THAT HORRIBLE, CRUEL TAX REFORM HE IS PUTTING THROUGH. CAN’T YOU ORGANIZE DEMONSTRATIONS EVERYWHERE AND SHOW ON EVERY NEWS STATION HOW THIS WILL BASICALLY ELIMINATE THE MIDDLE CLASS.

I ALWAYS WAS MORE ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE, BUT AM HOPING THAT THE DEMOCRATS WILL REGAIN POWER.!!!

I AM WORRIED BECAUSE THIS MAN WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO GAIN MORE AND MORE CONTROL..

PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN TO STOP HIM !!!!!
    Please respond.

    A VERY CONCERNED CANADIAN !!!
