Josh started earning popularity at Phillips Exeter Academy, where he played high school basketball, and in 2007 he was named as the New Hampshire Gatorade Player of the Year. After matriculating, he attended Stanford University, and played basketball for the school’s team. While he didn’t have much impact during his freshman year, he started producing better numbers during his sophomore year. However, he had to sit out the 2009 to 2010 season because of a serious medical condition that threatened to stop his basketball career. He was later cleared and returned to the court to play 31 games in his junior year and received an All-Pac-10 honorable mention. He would then help Stanford get to the 2012 National Invitation Tournament which Stanford would win. He was selected to the second-team All-Pac-12 during his senior year.

Since Owens was considered a low profile player, he started working out with various NBA teams. A lot were concerned about his college statistics despite his athleticism, so when he joined the 2012 NBA Draft he went undrafted. He then joined the NBA Summer League as part of the Orlando Magic, then moved to the Las Vegas Summer League with the Charlotte Bobcats, and was signed by the Bobcats for training camp, but did not play any pre-season games and was eventually released. He was acquired by the NBA Developmental League’s Idaho Stampede, then in 2013, he joined the NBA Summer League once again, this time playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. Afterwards, he joined the Israeli Basketball Premier League, playing with Hapoel Tel Aviv, having spent the preseason with Montepaschi Siena in Italy. He averaged 9.7 points and 7 rebounds during the regular season, then upped his statistics during the playoffs, however, Hapoel was defeated during the quarterfinals.

In 2014, Josh joined the NBA Summer League once again as part of the Sacramento Kings, then moved to play for the Italian Serie A team Dolomiti Energa Trento for one season; Trento would reach the Serie A Playoffs in that season. Afterwards, he signed with another Italian team Umana Reyer Venezia for the 2015 to 2016 season, and afterwards signed with AEK Athens, but left later in the year to join Pinar Karsikaya.

For his personal life, there is no public information about relationships, which Josh obviously keeps very private.
