Although a native of Galveston, Javon went to St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he started playing football, and set records for most career touchdowns, the longest play from scrimmage, and most touchdowns in a game. Also he played baseball, and after high school was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 12th round of the 1997 Major League Baseball draft; he played three years in minor leagues for the affiliate clubs.

He enrolled at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, but then transferred to Florida State University where, aside from football, he excelled in the triple jump and long jump. He finished his studies with majors in social sciences and communications.

After graduation, he declared for the 2002 NFL Draft, and was selected by the Green Bay Packers as the 20th overall pick. He immediately made an impact on the Packers’ game, making 100 receiving yards in his first playoff game. In his first season, Javon posted 319 receiving yards and scored one touchdown in the 15 games he played. Then in 2003, his numbers improved, as he had 716 receiving yards, which was enough for 9 touchdowns. In 2003 he had his breakthrough season, with 1,382 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. For the following season, Javon changed his agent and demanded a new contract from the Packers, as he was feeling he was underpaid, due to his great overall performance. However, Packers denied him a new contract, and Javon threatened with not playing and even retiring. Nevertheless, front office and Javon settled their differences and he started the 2005 season, but he injured his ACL in the first game and missed the whole season.

Following the end of the 2005 season, Javon was traded to the Denver Broncos, with which he signed a new contract worth more than $40 million over five years, which increased his wealth to a large degree. Also, the contract included bonuses worth $15 million in 2007 and 2008. He recovered from his injury for the start of the 2006 season, and played in all 16 games, making another 1,000 yards season with 1,084, and eight touchdowns.

The day after the season ended, he and his teammate Darrent Williams were in a car and were involved in a shooting. Darrent was shot and passed away from the wounds, while Javon wasn’t even injured. At the start of the new season, Javon changed his hair style to “fro-hawk”, worn by deceased Darrent in his honor. Javon played in only eight games for the Broncos in 2007 and amassed only 287 receiving yards, without a touchdown.

Due to his poor results, Javon was released by the team, and his next stop was Oakland and the Raiders, signing a five-year contract worth $55 million, with $16 million guaranteed. He played in eight games for the Raiders in 2008 and had only 196 receiving yards and scored one touchdown. For the next season, he played in only three games, before he was released on the 8th March 2010. His career didn’t end there, as he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but unfortunately, he failed to make it into the first squad and was released before the start of the 2010 season.

Regarding his personal life, little is known about Javon’s private life in the media, as he tends to keep information such as marital status and number of children hidden from the public .

Back in 2008, he was involved in a robbery; he was left unconscious and was found by the locals, Javon was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion. He spent two days in the hospital before being sent home. His attackers were caught and charged – one was DeShawn Lamont Thomas who already had a file with the police, and was sentenced to life imprisonment for his act.
