He was also an actor, who appeared in over 20 TV and film titles. His career was active from 1975 to 2016, when he passed away..

So, have you ever wondered how rich Garry Shandling was? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the total size of Garry’s net worth was over $17 million, accumulated through his successful involvement in the entertainment industry.

Garry Shandling Net Worth $17 Million

Garry Shandling was raised in a Jewish family by his father, Irving Shandling, a print shop owner, and his mother, Muriel Estelle, who worked as a pet store proprietor; he had a brother who passed away from cystic fibrosis when Garry was 10 years old. He attended Palo Verde High School, and upon matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Arizona, majoring in Electrical Engineering, but graduating in Marketing. Later, he finished his postgraduate studies in Creative Writing. Afterwards, he moved to Los Angeles, California, and began to work at an advertising company. Parallel with that, he continued with creative writing, and in no time he sold the scripts for the TV sitcoms – “Sanford And Son”, and “Welcome Back, Kotter”, so his professional writing career began, and his net worth was well established.

Soon after, Garry became a stand-up comedian, and he made his debut in 1978, when he performed at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. As he wasn’t paid enough, he was forced to quit performing, until he was spotted in 1981 by a talent scout from the TV series “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”. From then, he began to appear in the show as a guest, increasing his net worth by a large margin.

In no time, his life completely changed, as in 1984 he created his own show called “Garry Shandling: Alone In Vegas”, which was aired on Showtime. Two years later, he created “The Garry Shandling Show: 25th Anniversary Special”, and in 1991 “Garry Shandling: Stand-Up”, all of which added a lot to the size of his net worth.

Soon after, Garry and co-writer Alan Zweibel created the TV series “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show”, which accomplished major success and enabled him to expand his net worth further. The show lasted until 1990, and during that time, it was nominated four times for Emmy Awards, and won an award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy from the Television Critics Association, while Garry won an American Comedy Award for Funniest Male Performance in a Series, and two awards for Best Comedy Series.

Two years after that, he created another show entitled “The Larry Sanders Show”, which eventually had 56 nominations for Emmy Award, and three wins, while Garry had 18 nominations for Emmy Awards as well, and he won one for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. Thus, the show entered the “Time” magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Shows of All Time, contributing to his net worth too.

Apart from his successful career as a stand-up comedian, Garry was also known as an actor, making his debut appearance in the 1990 film “Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme”, after which he featured in a number of TV and film titles, including “Love Affair” (1994), “Zulender” (2001), “Iron Man 2”, and most recently “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), all of which added to his net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Garry Shandling never married, although he was in a relationship with actress and model Linda Doucett (1987-1994). He passed away from heart attack at the age of 66, on the 24th March 2016 in Los Angeles, California.
