David Toms Net Worth $35 Million

David is the son of Thomas Edward Toms, and played golf from an early age. In his teens, he won the 15-17 Boys’ event at the 1984 Junior World Golf Tournament. He went to Airline High School, located in Bossier City, Louisiana, and after matriculation, enrolled at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he played golf for the university’s team.

David obtained his tour card in 1992, but in his first season, he managed to get into the top ten at only one event, the Northern Telecom Open, finishing third. David struggled throughout his first couple of seasons, and in 1994 fell out of the PGA Tour. For the 1995 season, he played on the Nike Tour, now called Web.com Tour, on which he won two events, which secured him participation on the PGA Tour again, but had another discouraging season with only two top 10 finishes. However, his luck smiled on him in 1997, as he recorded his first victory on the tour, at the Quad City Classic, besting Brandel Chamblee, Robert Gamez and Jimmy Johnston by three strokes, which increased his net worth. In the 1998 season, David finished second at the Tucson Chrysler Classic, and his form improved so that in 1999 he won two events, firstly at the Sprint International, and then the Bucik Challenge. He continued with the same rhythm in the early 2000s, winning the Michelob Championship at Kingsmill in 2000, and Compaq Classic of New Orleans in 2001. He crowned his great form in 2001 by winning the PGA Championship, defeating Phil Mickelson by one stroke, which success significantly increased David’s net worth. He played great golf until the mid- 2000s, as he was constantly in the Top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for 175 weeks from 2001 until 2005. During that time, he won Michelob Championship at Kingsmill for the second time, Wachovia Championship in 2003, then two titles at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in 2003 and 2004, and WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2005. In 2006 he won his 12th event on the PGA Tour, the Sony Open in Hawaii, which further increased his net worth.

From 2007 until 2010, David’s performance declined, mostly due to injuries, but he managed to recover in 2011 to win his 13th and so far latest title, at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, defeating South Korean professional golfer Charlie Wi, by one stroke.

Thanks to his efforts, he was the recipient of the Charlie Bennet Award, alongside Kelly Gibson and Hal Suthon. Furthermore, he received Payne Stewart Award in 2011 for his sportsmanship and charitable activities.

David’s net worth has also benefited from his golf course design business; most of his works were as a player-consultant, but he also developed one golf-course on his own, the Carter Plantation in Springfield, Louisiana.

Regarding his personal life, David is married to Sonya; the couple has two children.

David is a well-known philanthropist; he started the David Toms Foundation in 2003, through which he helps underprivileged children, focusing on improvement of their self-esteem and making their lives easier. Also, he raised around $1.5 million for Hurricane Katrina relief.
