Chad Dawson was born on 13 July 1982, in Hartsville, South Carolina USA, and is a professional boxer, best known for being a three time former light-heavyweight champion, considered one of the best boxers of the division during the late 2000s and the early 2010s. Chad attended James Hillhouse High School, and would matriculate in 2000. He started off as an amateur boxer, getting a record of 67-13. He won an under-19 national championship, and a silver during the world championships in 2001. He then made his professional debut as a middleweight, then moving to super middleweight and defeating Carl Daniels and Ian Gardner. In 2004, he was suspended from fighting for six months after failing a post-drug test for marijuana. He then moved to the light-heavyweight division, and went on to have a 14 consecutive win streak before losing to Aundalen Sloan.

In 2006, Chad would get a unanimous decision victory over Eric Harding which would lead him to become the NABF Light-Heavyweight Champion, and then won the WBC Light Heavyweight championship against Tomasz Adamek the following year, with another unanimous decision. The following year, he defended his WBC belt against Jesus Ruiz, winning via a TKO in the sixth round, and later defeated Epifanio Mendoza, and would win a controversial unanimous decision victory against Glen Johnson in 2008. During the middle of the year, he vacated his title and would then fight Antonio Tarver for the IBF Light-Heavyweight Championship, winning via a unanimous decision, earning him $800,000 which increased his net worth significantly. They had a rematch seven months later which Chad won in a similar fashion. In 2009, he vacated the title for a rematch against Glen Johnson, and won in a more convincing fashion.

In 2010, Dawson would fight Jean Pascal for the Light-Heavyweight title and the referee would award Pascal the win after an accidental head-butt. Chad would return to the ring in 2011 to defeat Adrian Diaconu, then fought Bernard Hopkins for the lineal light-heavyweight championship, ruled as a Technical Draw, which led the fight to be a No Contest (NC) and to a rematch in 2012. Chad would win the rematch by majority decision and would then step down a division to take on the lineal super-middleweight champion Andre Ward whom Dawson would lose to. Afterwards, he returned to the light-heavyweight division to fight against Adonis Stevenson, but Chad was knocked out during the first round.

He took time off from the sport, and returned in 2014 to fight George Blades in the cruiserweight division, and Chad would knock out Blades before declaring himself back in the light heavyweight division. However, he lost to Tommy Karpency later in the year.

For his personal life, it is known that Chad Dawson has been married to Crystal since 2007, and they have three sons. The family lives in New Haven, Connecticut.
